2017 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift – Everything You Need To Know

2017 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift will receive subtle cosmetic updates and interior changes; India launch likely by November

The current generation Honda City was launched at the beginning of 2014 in India and it became the fastest selling mid-size sedan to reach one lakh sales milestone in the next 15 months. Boosted by the arrival of the i-DTEC diesel engine, the City went on to set records before Maruti Suzuki rolled up its sleeves and entered the Ciaz. Both the C-segment models exchange blows with little to choose between them in terms of sales numbers and that beckoned respective facelifts to master the competition. The Japanese brand updated the City with all-black interiors back in February 2016 before a thorough facelift greeted customers this February with several cosmetic and equipment upgrades that indeed made the City more expensive than ever. Deep in the segment, Hyundai is introducing the new generation Verna on August 22. It debuted in China last September with substantial exterior changes to close down the gap to City and Ciaz and had already been revealed in India.

As Volkswagen entered the facelifted Vento just over a year ago, no sooner response is expected from the German company while the new Skoda Rapid launched recently features several exterior and interior revisions as well. We expected Maruti to introduce a facelift as soon as this year but it did not turn out to be the case.

Instead, Maruti strategically shifted the sales of Ciaz from regular showrooms to Nexa premium outlets starting from April and brought a sense of more upmarket ambience to the vehicle. However, the Ciaz facelift, upon its arrival, will likely have substantial changes as it enters a refreshed battle with the City. It could get a similar face as the upcoming S-Cross as imagined in the digital rendering. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift:

The diesel mill consisting of mild hybrid technology has 1,248 cc displacement and produces 89 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. It comes linked with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Just like Maruti Suzuki upped the fervor last festive season with the RS sporty variant of Ciaz, it could incorporate a mild-hybrid fuel-saving system in the petrol engine. A 1.6-litre diesel will likely be added to the lineup in later time.

2017 Maruti Ciaz Top Speed

The maximum speed in which the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is expected to hit will be as similar to the outgoing model at around 170 kmph. If any sporty variant is launched, the mechanicals might be tweaked to allow a slightly higher top speed.

2017 Maruti Ciaz India Mileage

With a little improvement in mileage, the Ciaz sedan is likely to return a fuel economy of 21 kmpl for petrol manual and 20 kmpl for petrol automatic variant. Alongside, the upcoming Ciaz may have a fuel efficiency of around 29 kmpl.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift Exterior and Interior

It is more likely to receive premium touches on the outside as well as on the inside. As the number of Nexa showrooms increasing rapidly, the chances of the Ciaz facelift being highlighted primarily as a flagship product at the premium dealerships are also high. The additional features and updated visuals will be accompanied by the modifications to the powertrain as well.
From the visual standpoint, the facelifted Ciaz is believed to come equipped with subtle cosmetic upgrades like reworked grille, fog lamp area and bumpers, inclusion of LED Daytime Running Lights, newly designed alloy wheels and HID projectors. The range-topping variants is likely to offer sunroof while the interior could be adorned with an all-black theme and touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity.

No changes are expected dimension wise as the Ciaz facelift is likely to measure the same as its predecessor. It stretches to 4,490 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height and has wheelbase of 2,650 mm. The boot space should be good enough to hold a volume of 530 litres while the ground clearance stands at 170 mm for the four-door sedan.

2017 Maruti Ciaz Ground Clearance

The ground clearance of the Ciaz Facelift is most likely to remain at 170 mm and it is already 5 mm more than what City could manage.

2017 Maruti Ciaz Boot Space

The boot space should be good enough to hold a volume of 530 litres considering that there won’t be any structural changes in the upcoming Ciaz. The platform in which the existing Ciaz will be based on is likely going to remain the same.
